British musician Billy Morrison is back with Hollow (released Aug. 7, 2026), a record that feels less like a desperate cry into the void and more like a swaggering victory lap through a graveyard of musical clichés. Morrison has carved out a diverse and extensive career across the rock landscape, starting out in the UK indie and industrial-punk scenes before relocating from the UK to Los Angeles. Over the years, he has played bass for The Cult, fronted projects like Circus Diablo, and performed heavily in high-profile Los Angeles all-star cover and supergroup outfits such as Camp Freddy and Royal Machines. Morrison is also widely recognized for his long-standing partnership as a rhythm guitarist and co-writer for Billy Idol (collaborating heavily on the album Kings & Queens of the Underground)
The new record Hollow functions as a massive collaborative clubhouse, dividing its 12-tracks between Morrison’s own lead performances and an impressive roster of high-profile guest stars and rock royalty. Sully Erna (Godsmack) & Nuno Bettencourt (Extreme) team up on the heavy, brooding lead single “Becoming,” while Marilyn Manson appears on the track “The Tailor.” Other notable guests include Duff McKagan (Guns N’ Roses), Steve Stevens (Billy Idol), and a triumvirate of iconic rappers—Chuck D (Public Enemy), B-Real (Cypress Hill), & Darryl “DMC” McDiagnostics (Run-DMC)—join forces on “No Suspects.”
But, the standout for me is Morrison’s collab with Dexter Holland (The Offspring) on “Never Gonna Change“ simply because it leans so enthusiastically into pure, unadulterated fun. Rather than chasing fleeting modern trends, the song anchors itself in timeless rock traditions, driven by a relentless rhythm section and a commanding vocal performance. The arrangement builds tension by utilizing driving guitars and a memorable melodic hook that linger long after the final chord fades. Its a defining piece of work for Morrison, balancing introspection with a formidable, driving energy that elevates the entire album… And, did I mention it’s super-fun to listen to?
