Song of the Day: “Daisies” by Lantlôs
Lantlôs has undergone a profound transformation over the last decade, transitioning from the stark, wintry desolation of blackgaze into a vibrant, multifaceted project that defies easy classification. Their latest offering, Nowhere In Between Forever (released on April 3, 2026), serves as the culmination of this journey. It bridges the gap between the aggressive rhythmic foundations of their past and the lush, psychedelic alternative rock sensibilities explored on Wildhund. The result is an album that feels grounded in technical precision but elevated by a distinct sense of dreamlike wonder.
The album marks a fascinating evolution for band leader and multi-instrumentalist Markus “Herbst” Siegenhort’s vision, moving away from the overt genre tropes of metal and toward a more singular, hook-oriented sound. It retains the crunchy, muscular guitar work we expect, but the songwriting has leaned further into a hazy, melodic dreamscape that feels more “alternative” than “metal,” even when the drums are trying to kick a hole through your speakers. The songwriting is more focused than ever, trading the sprawling movements of earlier compositions for a dense, melodic complexity that rewards repeated listens. It is an evolutionary step that feels less like a departure and more like an arrival.
While the album is a cohesive trip, “Daisies” leaps out of the gate as the tightest (and catchiest) song on the tracklist. It is the perfect distillation of the “new” Lantlôs sound—a song that feels like it’s floating three inches off the ground while simultaneously being tethered to Earth by a thick cloud of distortion. It possesses a certain “accidental pop song” energy, where the melody is so effortless you forget the rhythmic complexity happening underneath it. While much of the album explores vast, atmospheric spaces, “Daisies” feels immediate and intimate. It manages to convey a sense of yearning and euphoria simultaneously, anchored by a central hook that is arguably the most memorable in the band’s entire discography, and providing a clarity and focus that defines the broader aesthetic of the album.
