Song of the Day: “Fought 4 Love” by Congratulations
If you’ve ever wondered what happens when four people with entirely different record collections—one metalhead, one funk devotee, one “pop-timist,” and one guy who presumably lives on a surfboard—decide to share a single brain, the answer is Join Hands. Released on February 13, 2026, the debut from Brighton’s Congratulations is less of a standard album and more of a 37-minute high-speed chase through a neon-lit toy store. It’s an alternately exhausting, exhilarating, and occasionally overdriven introduction to a band that treats genre boundaries like mere suggestions.
The record marks a massive leap in the band’s evolution. While their previous EPs Woo Hoo and Slap hinted at their ability to blend art-rock with dance-floor sensibilities, Join Hands sees them fully leaning into a maximalist philosophy. They’ve not only successfully bottled the frantic, matching-jumpsuit energy of their live shows, but they’ve also started decorating the edges with studio experimentation—mutated vocals, samples, and strings. It’s the sound of a band that has moved past simply being “the ones with the great hair and the jumpsuits” and into a space where they are genuinely trying to see how much sonic furniture they can cram into a single room before the floor collapses.
While the album is packed with contenders like the glitch-pop of “Dr. Doctor” or the Prince-ly groove of “This Life,” my SOTD pick is “Fought 4 Love.” It wins because it is the most cohesive realization of their “four-way tug-of-war” songwriting method. The track opens with a heavy Indie-rock guitar riff before quickly pivoting into a sleek, New Wave strut. It manages to be an “anti-love song” that you can actually dance to without feeling like a nihilist. Leah Stanhope’s vocals bridge the gap between a playground taunt and a rock-and-roll snarl with terrifying ease and features an inescapable chorus, proving that beneath the layers of “fuzzed-out chaos,” the band has a sharp ear for a pop melody.
