This weird synth-pop record turns corporate burnout into a dancefloor emergency.
Weird Music Wednesday: “Things I’ve Killed” by Telehealth
Seattle, Washington’s Telehealth is back on the PNW scene with Green World Image, proving that you can monetize millennial angst and turn corporate-speak into an absolute party. Originally formed in the wake of the 2020 lockdowns as a project founded by the married couple Alexander Barr—who performs under the stage name Alexander Attitude (handling synths, vocals, and guitar)—and Kendra Cox (synths and vocals).
Following up on their 2023 debut, Content Oscillator, which introduced us to their sharp-suited, synth-driven aesthetic, this sophomore LP expands the operation. While that first record functioned as a clever proof-of-concept for a duo mocking modern digital burnout, Green World Image upgrades them into a full-fledged quintet with longtime collaborators Ian McCutcheon on drums, John O’Connor on bass, and Dillon Sturtevant on guitar. They have traded solitary bedroom-producer vibes for a polished, bigger-budget sound courtesy of Sub Pop, expanding their palette toward a punchier brand of dance-punk that sounds like an office-space seminar crashing headfirst into an underground club.
Amidst all the corporate satire and high-concept audio onboarding sessions, the true high-water mark of the tracklist is easily “Things I’ve Killed.” This cut works so well because it weaponizes pure, unadulterated joy against old internet talking points, gleefully listing off various industries supposedly ruined by younger generations. Instead of feeling bogged down by generational exhaustion, the track turns economic despair into a propulsive, highly danceable workout loaded with wacky synth patches and razor-sharp vocal deliveries. It encapsulates everything great about the band’s evolution: it is catchy enough to get stuck in your head for days, smart enough to warrant a smirk, and energetic enough to justify its spot as the record’s beating heart.
